Gimp or Photoshop? Empty Gimp or Photoshop?

Post by Skrizzles Tue Sep 13, 2011 2:09 pm

Gimp vs Photoshop - Many of us are asking that question. Photoshop is a program made by Adobe.
Gimp is more user friendly and takes up less of your CPU. Great if you are just starting out in graphic designing.
Photoshop has more features and great for professionals. It is a CPU hogger though.
Gimp is free while Photoshop costs BIG money. (Or get a pirated version Very Happy)
IMO, I'll rather get Gimp rather than take my chances with a pirated version of Photoshop. (Not going to even think of buying it)
I also prefer Gimp's simple GUI compared to Photoshops'. Photoshop also uses up all of my CPU power so I really prefer Photoshop.
    My personal choice : Photoshop.
However, if you are a professional at graphic designing or are being paid to graphic design, you should stick with Photoshop. You'll need the extra features.
This is kind of a guide to help you choose between Photoshop and Gimp so i posted it here.

I actually prefer Gimp to Photoshop. Photoshop lags my computer like hell and i can't really do anything properly. Although if I had to choose between the two and I had a supercomputer, I would choose photoshop. (If it's free) It has more features and it's more professional Smile

I prefer GIMP because I hate learning those Photoshop tutorial, though Photoshop has rich features.

You said it correct that it takes up less of your CPU. So I love using it and I don't have much edits to do in photos.

Gimp is a photo manipulation program. In other words it's meant for editing photos. However, I use gimp to create graphics. By the way, all graphics I make are created from scratch. That's how powerful Gimp is!

Impressive that you are able to use Gimp to create your graphics. This just goes to show that it really doesn't matter what you use but more towards how well you use it. I have seen people doing wonderful things on freeware. Photoshop is widely used among the (pros) however the company they are working for pays for the software. Problem with using that is as stated by lots of people it is not user friendly. Newbies using it will end up with a headache.

Hahaha since i am a miser i only go for things where are free to begin with. If i really need to there are other ways to make all programs free, but i don't think it will be right for me to share them here.

Photoshop has more features, that is why it is a paid program, and GIMP is not.
